Letter to newspapers
The Editor
Dear Sir
Ex-Labour leader on Swale Borough Council, Dennis Grover, criticised me for using the word “I” too many times when writing to your paper. I (sorry it slipped out!) would be interested to learn how I (Oh, dear! There it is again!) am expected to answer queries about my activities and policies unless I (I give up!) write in the first person singular. Methinks my Labour critics are scraping the bottom of the barrel with that particular criticism!
Dennis went on to ask where I stand on a range of issues which he alleged are Conservative Party policy. Unfortunately, except for “support for married families” (I think Dennis means couples!), something of which I approve, the policies, as set out in his letter, bear little relationship to actual Conservative policy.
I am sure that the Conservative Party will release its full manifesto closer to the General Election at which time people will be able to decide which policies they support and which they don’t.
My own criteria will be quite simple; if a policy is likely to improve the quality of life for our community, then I will support it. If it is likely to have a detrimental affect then I will oppose it. One thing I will not be is a party political hack. If I am elected at the General Election I will always put our community before party politics. That is a promise.
Finally, perhaps Dennis would like to explain why it is that whenever I do something that is considered worth featuring by our local newspapers, it is “publicity seeking”, but whenever Labour politicians are mentioned, it demonstrates how “hard-working” they are!
Yours sincerely
Gordon
