SHOUT (Sheppey Outreach), a charitable project, has been running for some months now by students at the Isle of Sheppey Academy (West). They have been ‘collecting’ and raising money to assist children at a school in a rural area of South Africa.

Bob Geldof says ‘Donate now’
 
Bob Geldof, who famously became personally involved in the fight against poverty in Africa by organising the Live Aid concerts that ran simultaneously in England and America in July 1985 and was watched live by an estimated two billion viewers worldwide, subsequently raising £150 million, has written to the SHOUT team at the Isle of Sheppey Academy (West), supporting their efforts.

The SHOUT team has for some months been fundraising to help with the education and living conditions of children at a school in a rural area of the Eastern Cape, South Africa.

Bob said in his letter,

“…we have a moral obligation to provide aid and assistance to those in a less fortunate position than ourselves. That young people can formulate a plan and then follow it through to completion is impressive…I congratulate the students and staff at the Isle of Sheppey Academy for their fundraising efforts and applaud them for the principles of the SHOUT project in general…Others should take note of these efforts, not turn a blind eye, but make a donation now.”

SHOUT spokesperson Hannah Walker (16) said,

“Bob Geldofs letter is confirmation that our efforts, although small in comparison with larger organisations, will have a positive effect and that our project has been worthwhile.”

Isle of Sheppey Academy teacher Michael Thomas added,

“We believe that Bobs endorsement of the project will encourage local businesses to make a charitable contribution and we can guarantee that 100% of the contributions received will be used to help the children we are supporting.”
