Local MP, Gordon Henderson has launched a Sittingbourne and Sheppey Clean-Up campaign taking place throughout August 2011.
In partnership with Keep Britain Tidy’s 'Love Where You Live' campaign and the charity Litter Angels, Mr Henderson is encouraging local groups and individuals to commit to at least one clean-up project during the month long event. This could include a community litter pick, painting their garden fence or simply sweeping up their street.
The campaign is being supported by Swale Borough Council and the Kent Messenger Group, which has agreed to use its local newspapers to help encourage greater community participation.
Mr Henderson said,
“Like many other residents in my constituency I love where I live, but I recognise that it can be even better if we all make a bit of an effort to clean up the immediate area in which we live, work or play.
“We all know of public areas that are littered with rubbish, but there are many residential areas that are looking run down and could do with either a lick of paint or a good tidy up in the garden.
“Cleaning up our local environment will not only make our quality of life better, but it will encourage more people to visit our area, boosting the local economy and providing more jobs."
If you plan to get involved, Mr Henderson would love to hear about it via the form opposite so that your event can be publicised on this website along with any photos taken showing the before and after results.
