Concern Over Local Hospitals Unfounded

Concern over local hospitals unfounded

Conservative parliamentary hopeful, Gordon Henderson, has been in touch with the Eastern and Kent Coastal Health Trust to seek an assurance that services at both Sheppey Community Hospital and Sittingbourne Memorial Hospital were not about to be cut.

Mr Henderson contacted the Trust following revelations in the local press that the Minor Injury Unit at Sheppey Community Hospital was operating on reduced hours and a review was under way of the Wound and Dressing Clinic at Sittingbourne Memorial Hospital.

Mr Henderson said:

“Local residents got in touch with me because they were alarmed at the reports they read in our local newspapers. I contacted the Eastern and Kent Coastal Health Trust and have been given an assurance that late opening hours (5-9pm) for the Minor Injuries Unit at Sheppey Hospital will resume on 3rd May, with a service offered by a different provider.

“The situation with Sittingbourne Memorial is that a review is under way at the Wound and Dressing Clinic, but this is simply to ascertain where the most appropriate place for patients to be seen will be that will meet their needs. There is no intention to withdraw the service.”
