Below are past campaigns that Gordon Henderson has been involved with:
Reduce the impact of global warming on our environment by the use of renewable energy sources, such as wind farms. As part of this campaign Gordon undertook a series of lecture sessions at our local secondary schools.
Obtain justice for local workers, including the ASW steelworkers from Sheerness, who were threatened by the loss of their pensions when their companies went into liquidation. Gordon showed his solidarity by joining ASW workers on protest marches in London and Cardiff.
Set up a local community radio station for Sittingbourne & Sheppey. He has actively supported Minster based BRFM since its launch in 2006.
Support livestock farmers hit by unfair EU regulations that put them at a disadvantage to their continental rivals. As part of this campaign Gordon arranged a visit to a local farm by the shadow minister of agriculture, James Paice MP.
Improve social justice and strengthen the role of families in our community. As part of this campaign Gordon met with ex-Leader of the Conservative Party, Iain Duncan Smith MP, to discuss initiatives being taken by Iain’s Centre for Social Justice.
Increase the amount of waste that is recycled. As part of this campaign Gordon invited Conservative Leader, David Cameron, to visit local electrical waste recycling company, SWEEEP.
Oppose the double taxation of bingo. To highlight his support for the nation wide campaign Gordon visited the Mecca bingo hall in Sittingbourne and helped staff call out the numbers.
Highlight dangerous road conditions at Jenkins Hill, just outside Eastchurch, on the Isle of Sheppey. Gordon arranged for the then shadow transport minister, Chris Grayling MP, to meet with local parish councillors so that they could brief him on the situation.
