Big Clean-Up campaign begins!
Gordon Henderson MP kicked off the Sittingbourne and Sheppey Big Clean-Up campaign this week by visiting Mad Mike Young, member of Minster Parish Council, who cleared up litter outside an entrance to the Isle of Sheppey Academy.
The Big Clean-Up, taking place during August 2011 in Sittingbourne and Sheppey, is a campaign set up by Mr Henderson in partnership with local charity Litter Angels and Keep Britain Tidy’s Love Where You Live campaign. The aim is for individuals and local groups to commit to at least one clean-up project.
Mad Mike Young, who lives in Parsonage Chase in Minster, opposite an entrance to the Isle of Sheppey Academy, frequently clears up the area, which is left littered with rubbish dropped by the pupils at the school and by those who pass by.
Mad Mike Young said,
"Even if it's not yours, just pick up litter when you see it and make our lovely land even lovelier"
Mr Henderson added,
“I would like to thank Mad Mike for taking part in the Big Clean-Up campaign and for his efforts to keep the entrance to the Isle of Sheppey Academy opposite his house clean and tidy.
“It is important that we educate the pupils that they should take responsibility for their own litter and place it in the nearest bin, whether on the school premises or on their way to and from school.”
