Youngsters volunteer to clear litter from The Fleet
A number of young people, kitted out with protective clothing and litter pickers, volunteered last week to clear litter alongside The Fleet in Sheerness.
Members from Catch-22, in aid of the National Citizen Service, joined up with Litter Angels, including Gordon Henderson MP, to clear the pathway from the entrance by West Minster Primary School up to the New Road entrance.
In total the group collected 23 bags of litter, 3 bags of aluminum cans, 1 bucket of glass, 1 bike, 1 shopping basket and 2 tennis balls, over a two hour period.
Johnny Soutan, Youth Team Leader for Catch-22 in Sheerness, said:
“It was a fantastic day! The young people from NCS worked alongside Gordon and his Litter Angels to clean up a stunning area where they live. With the sun on our side, it was a superb start to the NCS summer programme. Everyone worked really hard to collect all the litter with recycling being on everyone’s thoughts. It was a great team building activity that brought all the young people from NCS closer and ready for the summer ahead.”
Gordon Henderson MP added:
“It was great to see so many young people volunteering to take part in this project. Everyone involved got stuck in and worked hard to clear as much litter as possible, which paid off as the total amount collected was a fantastic achievement.”
