MP backs paint brand as it calls time on Kent pub closures
With almost 16 pubs across Kent closing their doors since September 2011 , one of the UK’s leading trade paint brands is giving independent landlords in the region a helping hand by offering the chance to win a £5,000 makeover for their boozer. The Glidden Trade ‘Paint and a Pint’ competition was created to give the pubs in some of the UK’s hardest hit regions a much-needed boost in a bid to help pull in the punters.
As part of Paint and a Pint, Kentish landlords will have the chance to win a top transformation using Glidden Trade coatings, plus money towards a re-opening party. To help support local decorators in the area, professional painters who nominate their local will also have the chance to carry out the redecoration work, should their entry be selected for the top £5k prize.
Gordon Henderson, MP for Sittingbourne and Sheppey, who is supporting the competition, said: “Pubs play an important role in British culture and are the bedrock of many local communities. They deserve support so it’s great that brands such as Glidden Trade are helping local pub owners attract more custom with a new makeover.”
Alongside the £5k transformation, two second place prizes of £750 of Glidden Trade paints are also on offer and three runners up will each receive £150 worth of paint from the brand to use for their own makeover.
To be in with a chance of winning the £5,000 refurbishment, independent pub landlords and their customers should state why their pub deserves a makeover in up to 30 words. Responses, along with contact details and a photo or a video of the nominated pub, should be entered onto the Glidden Trade website found at www.glidden.co.uk/entryform or sent to the Glidden Trade Pub Competition, Giant’s Basin, Potato Wharf, Castlefield, Manchester, M3 4NB. Alternatively, entries can be submitted by email to [email protected].
All entries must be received before 5pm on 30 September 2012.
Projects will be judged on the originality of their entry, and the benefits the makeover would bring to the pub and the local area. The renovation work will be carried out in late 2012, so access to the pub at this time will be crucial.
Shortlisting will take place in early October, with successful entrants going to an independent judging panel later that month. The winning entrants will be informed of their prize in November.
