Record number of apprenticeships in Sittingbourne & Sheppey
News that a record number of young people are in apprentice training has been welcomed by local MP Gordon Henderson.
Statistics released by the Government reveal that in financial years 2011/12 1,090 people started apprenticeships in Sittingbourne and Sheppey, compared with just 440 in 2009/10.
The data also shows that the figures for first quarter of 2012/13 were also encouraging with 280 more young people entering apprenticeships.
Mr Henderson commented:
“One of the most important elements of securing a good economic future for our area is to improve the skills of our young people and give them a chance to achieve their full potential.
“Apprentices are an excellent way of offering training, so I am delighted that we saw a record number recruited in the last financial year.
“I hope that trend continues because improving a young person’s skills can transform their lives and I would urge many more of our local companies, large and small, to tap into the Government help that is on offer and start up an apprentice scheme. ”
