MP encourages communities to get behind “The Great British Spring Clean”

Gordon Henderson MP attends Parliamentary launch calling on schools, businesses and community groups to get outdoors, get active and help clear up Sittingbourne and Sheppey.

“The Great British Spring Clean” follows on from last year’s very successful “Clean for The Queen” campaign and brings together many of the anti-litter organisations in the UK, including local charity, Litter Angels, which was set up by Mr Henderson in 2008 to create awareness of the effects of litter on the environment. Costa Coffee, McDonald’s and LIDL are just a few of the companies also supporting the initiative.

Litter Angels, in partnership with Swale Borough Council, are urging community groups including parish councils, to organise their own litter pick or event in the coming weeks or over the campaign’s big clean weekend over 3rd-5th March.

Mr Henderson said: “The Great British Spring Clean is really important to encourage people to go out and clean up their communities. The initiative also provides a useful opportunity to raise awareness of the problems litter causes. I am really hoping people in Sittingbourne and Sheppey will get behind the campaign, which is an extension of the work Litter Angels is doing to improve our local environment.”
