Illustrator Wanted for new Children’s book
Local artists are being encouraged to enter a competition to become the illustrator of a new children’s book written by Gordon Henderson.
The book titled ‘The Litter Angel’ is about Jessica and Jack, who with the help of Eric the Litter Angel, nurse their dog back to health after it injures its paw on a rusty can dropped by a member of the public.
Mr Henderson wrote the book as part of his campaign to teach young children about the effects of litter on our environment and has read the story to pupils at a number of schools across Sittingbourne and Sheppey.
Mr Henderson now wants to get the book published to raise money for local charity, Litter Angels and is looking for a local artist to illustrate the book.
To enter the competition, Swale based artists are being asked to submit one A4 framed piece of work using the following scene from the story as a guide:
Jessica, because she was the oldest (8) and because she wanted to be a nurse when she grew up, went to find out what was wrong with their puppy. When she reached Dog, Jessica discovered that its paw was covered in blood. Looking down she saw that the cut had been caused by the rusty, jagged edge of an empty drinks can that some thoughtless person had thrown into the alley.
Completed work should then be sent or hand delivered to Mr Henderson’s constituency office at Top Floor, Unit 10 Periwinkle Court Business Centre, Church Street, Milton Regis, Sittingbourne, Kent, ME10 2JZ.
The winner, who will be chosen by Mr Henderson at a special exhibition evening in May 2012, will become the official illustrator of the Litter Angels book and will receive a percentage of the royalties from sales of the book.
Mr Henderson said,
“I am aware that many of my constituents have artistic talents, and so I hope they will take advantage of this exciting opportunity and will be able to bring the story to life.”
The closing date for entries is 30th April 2012. For more information about the competition or the charity, Litter Angels, please visit: www.litterangels.org or contact Jess McMahon on 01795 423199 or by email on [email protected].
