MP welcomes local council tax freeze

Local MP, Gordon Henderson has welcomed Swale Borough Council’s decision to freeze council tax for his constituents in Sittingbourne and Sheppey.

The council tax freeze will mean that the overall cost, for example, for a Band D property in Sittingbourne and Sheppey will stay at £1,430, which will see a saving of £72.00 for this year.

Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Eric Pickles said,

“Under the previous Labour government, council tax rose by 109% between 1997 to 2010. Under the new Government, council tax has been frozen this year, offering real help on the cost of living to hard-working families and pensioners.”

Mr Henderson added,

“At a time when everyone’s budget is under severe pressure in what is a difficult economic climate, and with the Government struggling to bring down the mountain of debt it inherited from the previous Labour administration, I welcome any help offered to hard pressed local families, no matter how small.”
