Good News for Sheppey Academy
THE uncertainty surrounding the future of the Isle Of Sheppey Academy has been resolved following confirmation by the Secretary of State, the Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, that the money needed to rebuild the school has been released.
The announcement was made in a letter from Mr Gove to local MP, Gordon Henderson, who has been pressing the Department of Education for a quick decision on the academy building programme.
Mr Henderson said:
“This is wonderful news for children on the Isle of Sheppey. I have been in almost daily contact with Michael Gove and I am delighted that he listened to my pleas and ended the uncertainty over the Academy’s future. Parents, children and teachers can now plan for the future with confidence.
“Of course, we shouldn’t forget that the building work was delayed even before the Government’s review. Construction work should have started earlier this year and if that had happened there would have been no question about the capital funding.
“I am still not entirely sure why building work was delayed for a year, but I very much hope that all the interested parties will now get their act together and ensure there are no further delays.
“I have expended a lot of time and effort lobbying Michael Gove to release funds for our Academy and it would be unforgivable if there were any more delays in getting the building work started.”
