Patients listen to MP during Hospital Broadcasting Week
Patients at Medway Maritime Hospital listened to a variety of special programming this week to celebrate Hospital Broadcasting Week, including an interview with Gordon Henderson.
Hospital Radio Medway was founded in 1970 and is run completely by volunteers. The station broadcasts a variety of programming for patients to listen to across the wards 24 hours a day.
Mr Henderson was invited to Hospital Radio Medway to be interviewed on his life and work as an MP. During the interview, Mr Henderson spoke about his role as an MP before moving onto more personal questions about growing up and going to school in Gillingham. He also provided some insight into his life before becoming an MP, including owning a restaurant in South Africa.
Mr Henderson also chose three songs of sentimental value, which were played. These included Day in the Life by The Beatles, My Generation by The Who and Like a Rolling Stone by Bob Dylan.
Presenter Adrian Last, who interviewed Mr Henderson, said:
"Gordon was a very interesting interviewee and our listeners enjoyed hearing more about his life as an MP and his links to Medway."
Mr Henderson said:
“When visiting Medway Hospital the radio station tends to go unnoticed so Hospital Broadcasting Week provided a great opportunity for me to visit the studio, find out more about what they do. I know from personal experience that patients appreciate hospital radio and I think the volunteers are doing a great job.”
