MP welcomes new initiative from GlaxoSmithKline

Local MP, Gordon Henderson has welcomed a new initiative from GlaxoSmithKline to encourage students graduating from UK universities to consider pursuing a career within the company.

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has taken the decision to reimburse 100% of uncapped tuition fees from September 2012 for all undergraduates recruited in the UK. These payments will be made upon the commencement of full employment and will be conditional on the employee remaining with the company for a minimum of two years.

GSK outlined the new plans as part of on-going efforts to ensure the future success of the business, which is one of the leading FTSE companies and employers in the UK. GSK recruits between 50-100 undergraduate students into its UK Graduate Training Programmes or other roles within the company each year.

Mr Henderson said,

“This is a great initiative and I hope local employers in Sittingbourne and Sheppey will consider introducing similar schemes.

“We need to encourage students to pursue Science and Engineering degrees and this is a very attractive way of doing so to reflect the recent changes to university fees.”
