Generous donations sent to Camp Bastion
102 care parcels have been sent to Camp Bastion in Afghanistan thanks to the generous donations made by members of the public in Sittingbourne and Sheppey for the Support Our Soldiers campaign, run by Gordon Henderson MP and his staff.
The campaign was set up in 2003 to encourage and support soldiers by placing specific items into care parcels, which are sent to where they are in action. This year the parcels will be sent to Afghanistan.
Throughout February, boxes were placed in the two local Tesco stores as well as Autowash Applicances in Sittingbourne High Street and the Hope Street Centre in Sheerness. A total of 1438 items were donated including 84 bottles of shower gel, 72 Mars bars and 31 jigsaw puzzles.
The items were packed into 2kgs care parcels by Mr Henderson’s staff and collected by a representative for the campaign who has sent the parcels to Afghanistan.
Mr Henderson said,
“I am very pleased that the campaign was so successful. I would like to thank the local participating stores for their support and more importantly, my generous constituents, who donated the large number of items for the soldiers to enjoy while fighting in Afghanistan.
“All those serving in the Armed Forces risk their lives to protect us and it is only right that we support them by making sure they have a few additional treats to supplement the essentials they receive as a matter of course
