Young people urged to join local Cadets
Young people in Sittingbourne and Sheppey are being urged by their local MP, Gordon Henderson to join the army, air or sea cadets.
Mr Henderson made his call following a visit to the Air Training Corps, who are based at The Westlands School in Sittingbourne. During his visit, Mr Henderson was given a tour of their base, listened to a talk about what they do and watched the cadets perform their drills and activities.
The Air Training Corps is a national youth organisation sponsored by the Royal Air Force in the UK. The main aims are to encourage young people to take an interest in aviation and the RAF, to provide training and promote a spirit of adventure and leadership. Membership is open to young people aged between 13 and 20. The maximum age for joining is 17.
Flight Lieutenant Hannah Fulford RAF VR(T) said:
“The cadets were delighted to be visited by Mr Henderson and were pleased when he acknowledged their commitment and gave his support of the cadet organisations.”
Mr Henderson said:
“I would like to thank the Air Training Corps for inviting me along to one of their sessions to find out more about what they do. I encourage more young people to get involved with their local cadet branch, whether that is the Air Training Corps, the Sea Cadets or the Army Cadets.”
