Screen @ The Avenue
LOCAL MP. Gordon Henderson, has praised a new entertainment initiative in Sittingbourne.
Last Saturday Mr Henderson and his wife, Louise, attended the launch of the “Screen @ The Avenue”. The initiative, which follows closure of Sittingbourne’s cinema, aims to bring blockbuster films to the town, the first of which was the award winning Avatar.
Mr Henderson said:
“Louise and I haven’t been to the cinema for ages and didn’t really know what to expect. In the event we were very impressed with the way in which The Avenue had been converted into a cinema for the night.
“I would like to praise Garth Spann and his team for the professional way in which they put on the show. The screen was large enough, without being overpowering, which is a fault in too many of the modern cinema complexes, and the sound system was absolutely excellent.
“The only disappointment was that there were a lot of empty seats. I know it was hot on Saturday and people like to stay outside as long as possible, but it would have been good to see more support for this excellent initiative.
“There were lots of grumbles when the cinema closed down, but the sad truth is that the old adage still holds good: Use it or lose it!
“Seeing current films in a comfortable environment at the fantastic price of £4 for an adult ticket is a real bargain and I would urge local people to support Screen @ The Avenue.”
The programme for August is:-
13th August at 7.30pm – Did You Hear About The Morgans
14th August at 7.30pm – Clash Of The Titans
15th August at 10.30am – The Princess And The Frog
ADDITIONAL NOTE
The theatre’s use as a cinema is only temporary and only for the nights on which films are shown. At other times, The Avenue will continue to be a theatre putting on plays, musicals and other entertainment.
