MP encourages schools to enter School Games programme

Gordon Henderson is encouraging schools in Sittingbourne and Sheppey to register for the School Games programme, which is being run in association with the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The programme aims to boost the existing work in schools to create a year-round competition for pupils of all abilities. The programme is made up of 4 levels:

• Level 1: Each school has their own School Games day.

• Level 2: Regular school competitions between schools at a local level.

• Level 3: Annual county/area school competitions – School Games Festivals

• Level 4: National multi-sport event.

The national finals will take place in the Olympic Park in May 2012.

Mr Henderson said,

“Six schools in Sittingbourne and Sheppey have already registered for the School Games, however, I would like to encourage many more to do the same.

“Sport is an important aspect of an active child’s lifestyle and this will give them an opportunity to get involved in a number of competitions and hopefully find the motivation to win!”
