Mayor of Swale presents prizes to Litter Angels “Superheroes” winners
Gordon Henderson MP was joined by the Mayor of Swale, Cllr Lesley Ingham, at the Kemsley Community Hall on Thursday 10th November 2016 to present local school children with prizes for this year’s Litter Angels anti-litter poster competition, the theme of which was “Superheroes”.
Litter Angels is a charity set up by Mr Henderson in 2008 to create, through education, awareness about the anti-social nature of litter and its effect on our local environment.
The Mayor presented a Litter Angels certificate to all the children who were shortlisted. In addition the winner from each of the 19 participating schools was presented with a mug, individually designed for each child by local business, Little Potters, which included a copy of that child’s poster design. They received also a green LA Superhero cape.
The overall winning poster was designed by Bethany Moore, aged 10, who attends Borden CofE Primary School. Bethany received a cheque for £50 and her school received a cheque for £100. The winning poster will now be printed and displayed in the car parks of the McDonald’s restaurants in Sittingbourne, Bobbing and Sheerness.
Mr Henderson said,
“This year the primary school children were encouraged to design their own superhero to fight the litter on our streets. We had some excellent submissions and the competition was a great success.
“I would like to thank all those involved with the competition, particularly, McDonald’s restaurants for their continued support.”
