MP welcomes renewal of DVLA–related Post Office Services

Gordon Henderson MP has welcomed the renewal of DVLA-related services at Post Offices across Sittingbourne and Sheppey.

The Post Office currently offer motorists access the DLA services, such as applying for tax discs and driving licences, as well as some new services including the licensing of Heavy Goods Vehicles.

The new seven year contract will come into effect on 1st April 2013.

Patrick McLoughlin, Secretary of State for Transport commented:

“I congratulate the Post Office and am confident they will deliver an excellent service to motorists throughout the country.

‘This contract also provides value for money for the taxpayer, resulting in savings of between £13 million and £15 million a year and demonstrates how serious we are about making savings within Government.”

Mr Henderson, who had received a number of postcards from constituents urging him to save the DVLA-related services at local Post Offices in his constituency said:

“I would like to thank my constituents for raising their concerns for these services with me.

“Local post offices sit at the heart of community life, and this decision will make life easier for motorists in Sittingbourne and Sheppey.”
