MP stresses concerns over high fuel prices

Local MP, Gordon Henderson has stressed his concern over the recent increase in high fuel prices and is supporting the proposal for a fuel duty stabiliser.

Mr Henderson is supporting EDM 1241 and 1252 which will press the Government to introduce a fuel duty stabiliser as a priority. He has also written to the Chancellor highlighting his concerns.

A fuel duty stabiliser, which was originally a Conservative proposal, would see fuel duty fall when oil prices rise and go back up when the oil price goes down. This would increase the stability of family and economic finances and will be good news for businesses such as those within the haulage industry which rely on fuel to operate.

Mr Henderson said,

“Hauliers and motorists are really suffering from high fuel prices and I fear there is even more misery ahead unless the Government takes action.

“I know that the Treasury is currently reviewing whether a fuel duty stabiliser can be introduced and I hope that my colleagues and I can put pressure on ministers to make a positive decision and make that decision soon.”
