MP pleased to see a 64% rise in apprenticeships

MP pleased to see a 64% rise in apprenticeships

Figures released by the Government show there have been around 710 apprenticeship starts in Sittingbourne and Sheppey this year compared to 440 last year – a rise of 64% percent.

Mr Henderson is a strong supporter of apprenticeships and is positive that this growth will be a long term trend as local employers and potential apprentices begin to see the benefits of an apprenticeship for themselves, their businesses and the local economy.

Sittingbourne and Sheppey has long been home to a wealth of industries with Sheerness docks, a steelworks and brickworks, the Kent Science Park and Kemsley Paper Mill along with numerous business parks that host hundreds of small and medium-sized businesses.

There is also the recently built Morrisons Distribution Centre and possible future business investment in Vestas and Aesica Pharmaceuticals on Sheppey which holds huge potential for the future of apprenticeships in the area.

Mr Henderson said:

“I fully support the measures introduced by the Government to make it easier for employers to take on apprentices and I want to support local businesses in increasing the number of apprenticeships within my constituency.”
