During the event Barclays staff were on hand to provide advice and literature about safe banking and measures that can be taken to avoid becoming a victim of fraudsters.
Sarah Chappell, manager of the Barclays in Sittingbourne said: “This was a great opportunity for our customers to learn about some of scams operating locally and how to take sensible, and simple, measures to avoid becoming victims of such crimes. We are committed to helping our customers to protect themselves from fraud, and this event was a good opportunity to help people to understand the importance of staying vigilant.
We are very grateful to Gordon Henderson MP for his support in raising the profile of this issue.”
Gordon Henderson MP said: “In an age where people are being hit by scams on an almost daily basis it is good that at least one of our banks is taking seriously the threat to their customers.
‘I commend Barclays for launching this initiative to highlight the problem to its customers and I very much hope that other high street lenders will follow the company’s lead and provide advice about safe banking.”
Barclays is the first bank to commit to a TV ad campaign to build consumer awareness of fraud.
The advert includes a call to action to access a supporting website for further information on how individuals can help protect themselves www.barclays.co.uk/fraudsmart.
