LOCAL MP, Gordon Henderson, this week again raised in Parliament the issue of the Isle of Sheppey Academy.

Mr Henderson used the debate on the Academies Bill currently going through Parliament to highlight the inadequacies of the existing buildings and to stress that new buildings are essential for the success of the Academy.

Mr Henderson said:

“I wanted to emphasise once again that our academy is unique in that it was created as part of the reorganisation of education on Sheppey.

“For that reason I do not want to see it lumped in with Kent’s overall academies programme when it comes to divvying up the available funding.

“This is something that I want to take up with Kent County Council and I have asked for a meeting with Paul Carter to discuss the matter.

“I am working hard to ensure that children on Sheppey get the new buildings needed to make the Academy as success.”
