Sitting MP adopted as General Election candidate

Local Conservatives have confirmed that sitting MP Gordon Henderson has been adopted as their candidate at the next General Election, whenever it takes place.

Mr Henderson was adopted by the Executive Committee of the Sittingbourne and Sheppey Conservative Association (SSCA), following a secret ballot, which took place at a meeting held last week at the Sheerness Conservative Club.

The Chairman of the SSCA, Jess McMahon, said:

“Gordon submitted a letter stating his intention to stand at the next election and the Conservative Party rules require local members to decide, by secret ballot, whether he should be adopted as their candidate. A vote was held and it was decided overwhelmingly that Gordon should be our candidate.

“I was delighted at the result because Gordon is a great constituency MP, who concentrates all his efforts on representing his local community and supporting those who need his help.”

Mr Henderson said:

“I am delighted to have been adopted as the Conservative candidate, because I wanted to end speculation over my future.

“We have local Swale Borough Council elections coming up next year and we can now enter that election campaign without any external distractions.

“We have some excellent local candidates lined up and we can look forward to a successful campaign as a united Conservative team, with a shared vision for our area.

“Our collective priority will be to improve the quality of life for local residents, by providing more housing in the right locations; more employment opportunities; better roads; more schools and better health facilities.”
