MP urges talented constituents to enter national music competition
Local MP, Gordon Henderson, is supporting a national music competition and is urging his musically talented constituents to enter to win some fantastic prizes.
Rock The House is a music competition with a political twist; supporting unsigned bands and artists, it will raise political awareness of the importance of music and other creative businesses to the UK.
The competition was launched on 4th February 2011 by Mike Weatherly MP at The Sanctum Soho Hotel in London and will be sponsored by a number of big names in the music industry included EMI, UK Music, Yamaha and Future Publishing.
Rock The House offers entry categories covering both Live Bands and Live Music Venues. Bands and venues are invited to enter, via their local MP, who will make nominations to a judging panel of music industry heavyweights on behalf of their own constituencies.
The winners will be announced by the end of May. Prizes include:
• To perform live at a top music venue in 2011.
• Win Yamaha gear and instruments.
• Network with top industry professionals.
• Receive a masterclass from a top sound and lighting engineer.
• The opportunity to record an original CD.
• Possible opportunity to record (or be at a recording) of a music video.
All competition finalists will be invited to attend an exclusive star-studded event on the Terrace of the House of Commons on 30th June.
Mike Weatherly MP said,
“Both culturally and economically, music is hugely important to this country. My hope in developing Rock The House is to put the spotlight on some very important issues within the music industry and increase political support to ensure that the UK’s composers, artists and musicians can continue to dominate the world stage.”
Mr Henderson said,
“There are a number of talented unsigned bands in Sittingbourne and Sheppey and I would like to see them enter this competition.”
“This is a fantastic opportunity for my constituents to show what they have to offer and hopefully win to perform at a top music venue or experience many other great prizes.”
Entries can be submitted until the closing date of 31st March 2011. Further details and the official application form are available online at: www.rockthehouse.me.uk.
