MP objects to Queenborough fire station closure
Gordon Henderson MP has objected to the proposed closure of Queenborough fire station as stated in Kent Fire and Rescue Service’s draft document named Towards 2020.
There are currently three fire stations on the Isle of Sheppey – Sheerness (known as Sheppey fire station) which has a full-time fire engine and Eastchurch and Queenborough which have one part-time fire engine each.
The draft document proposes that Queenborough fire station would close and the firefighters would be redeployed to Sheppey fire station in Sheerness.
Mr Henderson said,
“I am concerned that following the closure of Queenborough fire station, Sheppey and Eastchurch fire stations would become over-stretched and will not be able to cover all areas of the Island putting my constituents at risk.
“I have written to Kent Fire and Rescue asking them to reconsider their plans and would urge my constituents to follow suit.”
