MP welcomes new charity texting service

Local MP, Gordon Henderson, has welcomed a new service which allows members of the public to donate to charity by text message.

Each charity registers for the free service called JustTextGiving, by creating a Vodafone Individual Code (VIC) which will be unique to them. Members of the public can then text this code and their donation amount up to £10 to 70070. There is also an opportunity to add Gift Aid. The donation will be deducted from their mobile phone bill or credit.

Vodafone is offering a free marketing support pack for charities to help them to promote their new code. More information can be found at www.justtextgiving.co.uk or by calling 0800 0521 081.

Mr Henderson said,

“80% of adults carry a mobile phone these days so this is a great new way of donating to charities and the process is so simple.

“I encourage local charities in Sittingbourne and Sheppey to sign up to this free service, which will hopefully prove successful for them.”
